Wii Fit Reviewed by an Actual Fitness Instructor
2008-06-13 23:43:13 by Jonathan in Gaming Today

Whether it can replace your trip to the gym or not, Wii Fit still comes across as a device to, well, get you more fit (it’s right in the title after all). So who better than an actual fitness instructor to review the device on its athletic merits. In this video, Sarah Dussault from Diet.com hooks herself up to a heart rate monitor and gives Nintendo’s new gadget a try. Her findings show that many of the mini-games, such as the hula hoop and “step” ones, really only give you the equivalent of a walking warm-up. The most effective exercise she finds is the footrace game, but even then she muses aloud “Why purchase a $90 game to run, when you can do it outside for free?” Ultimately though, she basically reveals what anyone who frequents a gym can tell you: Wii Fit is not as effective as more traditional forms of exercise. She does however applaud Wii Fit for taking a step to curb childhood obesity, an issue she naturally feels very strongly about.
