Blockbuster has announced a recent push to “significantly expand its game business” in US.
The new store layouts will accommodate a wider range of hardware, software and peripheral options for the Xbox 360, Wii and the PS3 as well as the Nintendo DS.
Players can expect to find more available titles and rentals in stock. Blockbuster will also be offering more special video game bundles such as the “exclusive $499.99 PlayStation 3 movie and game bundle featuring a 40GB console, Blu-Ray movies Spider-Man 3 and Transformers and a Blockbuster 12-week rental card for PlayStation 3 games and Blu-ray movies.”
“We’re committed to offering a full assortment of everything gamers want in our stores - hardware, accessories and retail and rental games across all platforms - including Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS,” said Rod Murray, Blockbuster’s vice president of games merchandising.
The company seems to be floundering, looking for a market but its going to find the completion rough with Gamestop. The only way they can pull the market away is to fix the perceived employee problems - something Gamestop has been working hard to resolve over the last two years. Still this move seems more like a return to the old Blockbuster media stores which ultimately failed.
