Visa Replaces Dusty PS3 That Sony Wouldn't Repair

You may remember a couple months back when a story began floating around the internet that Sony had refused to repair a broken PS3 due to the amount of dust it had on it. Then pictures of the unit in question became available online, which showed one really freakin’ dusty unit. And then, because this is the internet, many people bickered over whether it was really too dusty to repair and tossed out a few crazy conspiracy theories for good measure. Well, you can now consider the matter resolved as the owner of the filthy PS3 managed to get a new one through the extended warranted protection service provided by his Visa card. Sony’s warranty on the system had already passed by the time he got his old PS3 back, but his Visa Signature card came with a “warranty manager” feature that effectively doubled the warranty period. After trying unsuccessfully to repair the system himself by simply dusting it and upgrading the firmware (which completely bricked it), he started working with Visa to get a new one.

So, surprisingly, this story had a happy ending; even though it was pretty much due to dumb luck. Let that be lesson in hygiene to you kids though.
