Capcom recently learned that their beloved (and simultaneously reviled) Mega Man franchise had received the Guinness World Record for “Most Number of Games In a Single Series.” So how does Capcom feel about that? They’re pretty proud actually, while also acknowledging that the Blue Bomber has been “milked like no other milking in the history of video game milkings!” They’re also calling foul though, not because of the contention that Mega Man is the most milked franchise ever, but because thay feel there should be more games recognized. The Guinness World Records: Gamers’ Edition 2008 book says that the series has had 46 games, but Capcom believes there are actually much more than that, including Mega Man Soccer, Super Adventure Mega Man, Mega Man Power Battle, and others.
Considering it seems like there’s a new Mega Man game showing up every six months just in the U.S., I’m not going to doubt them. They are however asking for someone out there to come up with a definite number for just how many Mega Man games there really are, not including games where he just made an appearance, such as Marvel Vs. Capcom. The person who completes this assignment will win “some kinda random prize,” which I’m guessing is a Mega Man game, since they’ve apparently got cartridges and discs affixed to the mortar of their building.
