The Most Popular DLC For Five Big Xbox 360 Games

As part of the “New Xbox Experience,” as Microsoft is calling it, the company has made it possible to view downloadable content in terms of user popularity.

It’s not as robust or scientific as the Nintendo Channel and we don’t know how long it’s been tracking these statistics, but it does provide some insight into gamer habits.

So, what are the top five downloads for gamers who are playing “Rock Band 2,” “Guitar Hero: World Tour,” “BioShock,” “Halo 3″ and “Gears of War”?

George Romero Lawsuit Agaist Capcom Dismissed by Judge

Remember back in February when New Line Cinema and the MKR group who own the rights to filmmaker George A. Romero’s films decided to sue Capcom for copyright infringement over their survival horror game Dead Rising? In case you can’t recall, they felt that the game was a blatant rip-off of Romero’s classic zombie movie Dawn of the Dead.

The lawsuit, however, has been thrown out of court by U.S. magistrate judge Richard Seeborg, who felt that a storyline involving survivors hanging out in a shopping mall during a zombie apocalypse was too vague to be copyright protected:

“[The MKR Group (producers of the film)] has not identified any similarity between Dead Rising and any protected element of Dawn of the Dead. Rather, the few similarities MKR has alleged are driven by the wholly unprotectable concept of humans battling zombies in a mall during a zombie outbreak. To the extent that Dead Rising may be deemed to posses a theme it is confined to the killing of zombies in the process of attempting to unlock the cause of the zombie infestation. The social commentary MKR draws from Dawn of the Dead, in other words, appears totally absent from the combat focus found in Dead Rising.”

So there ya have it. No similarities between Dawn of the Dead and Dead Rising. I suppose this also means that there are no similarities between the scientific experiments on people which turned them to zombies in Dead Rising and the movie Day of the Dead. If that were the case, there would be a lot of people being sued because it seems that the military or some rouge scientist is always genicially altering people in games and movies.

Creat Studios three PSN games revealed

Creat Studios has finally officially unveiled them. All three games will feature Trophy support, and will be released this Winter.

Ps3fanboy.com writes:

* Magic Ball, is based on the classic Breakout arcade game, with a magical twist. Check out a video here. The initial release will include over 40 levels and both local and online multiplayer support. 20 additional levels will be available at a later date.

* Mahjong Tales: Ancient Wisdom will be the first mahjong game available for PlayStation Network, featuring a "storybook adventure," with hand-drawn illustrations. In addition to the two gameplay modes, a level editor and level packs are also planned for post-launch release.

* Cuboid is a 3D puzzle game where players navigate ancient ruins, maneuvering a cube through a hole-filled grid. The initial release of Cuboid will include 66 twisted levels to engage players, with premium packs available later to include more levels and a custom level creator.

Dead Rising copyright suit thrown out, zombies free to roam malls unhindered

Earlier in the year, Capcom was accused of infringing upon the classic George A. Romero film Dawn of the Dead with its mall-based zombie game Dead Rising. The titles were thematically similar, and the inspiration was definitely there, but a judge has deemed that zombies with a taste for window shopping are free from lawyers -- creatures as hungry for flesh and soulless as any undead creature.

United States Magistrate Judge Richard Seeborg has thrown out the suit after ruling that The MKR Group (the movie producer's company) could not identify any protected similarities between Dead Rising and Dawn of the Dead. Basically, you can't copyright the idea of putting zombies in a shopping center. Anything in the film that could legally belong to MKR were not in Dead Rising, including the film's social commentary on consumerism.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for Capcom, however. For instance, the game developer chose to establish genre conventions by submitting movie synopses from Wikipedia. Printing out things from a page that can be edited by any user does not, apparently, stand up in court. Silly Capcom.

That snafu aside, it seems that Dead Rising is free to roam shopping malls without fear of persecution. Bad luck to the money grubbers.

That’s it. This wins the “Best Trailer of the Year” award, hands down. Sure there were some great trailers in 2008, but did any of those combine the classic action of Street Fighter with Joe Esposito’s timeless theme from Karate Kid? The answer is “No,” and that’s why those other videos just couldn’t compete. The only thing that could beat this would be a video involving Mortal Kombat and “The Final Countdown” (hint, hint, Midway).

Weapon of Choice lets players cheat death

Weapon of Choice may owe its heritage to such classics as Metal Slug and Contra, but in no way should it be looked over because these games and their many spin-offs and sequels are still around. The above trailer shows off the natural progression of classic gaming into today’s expectations.

Not only does it have great HD graphics with that Colored Pencil art style, killer music and plenty of wild actions; but this game also features some wicked looking original ideas that should breathe life into its genre. Enter “Death Brushing.” This feature is automatic in the game, which forces gameplay to slow down when the player is about to get hit allowing them a chance to react and dodge whatever is coming at them. When Death Brushing, the background is filled with floating skulls.

Most games like this are pretty linear, but Weapon of Choice will have branching paths to choose from as well as multiple endings. Add to that the different characters, each packing a unique weapon altering how players go about the level and dispatching alien scum, what looks like crazy fun gameplay and high replayability; and this title may just be a must when it hits Xbox LIVE tomorrow, Nov. 19.
