Actually, this 30-second teaser trailer for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves does not necessarily take place in the North Pole, nor does it necessarily feature a fight to the death with a mystic artifact-enhanced “Super Santa,” but we are no less excited. Okay, maybe a little, but not much. Developer Naughty Dog’s sequel to one of my favorite games for the PS3, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, sees our titular wisecracking treasure hunter following in the footsteps of 13th century explorer Marco Polo, aided by a new free climbing mechanic and stealth based gameplay.

Though the teaser is short on details, Drake’s looking a little sadder and stubblier then when we saw him last, but that might have something to do with being stranded in a blizzard with only an ancient ritualistic dagger and a gaping flesh wound for company. As long as they don’t pull a Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and turn Drake into the typical moody anti-hero, carving poetry into his home room desk with a switchblade, I can deal with a little dark. I prefer charming and cheerful, but any Uncharted is good Uncharted, even when it jumps the shark in the third act by introducing mutant Nazi monsters.

As hinted at the end of the trailer, more details should be revealed during SpikeTV’s Video Game Awards on December 14th.

Pandemic Studios worked with WETA Digital to add authenticity when creating the many characters featured in the game. There will be two campaigns good versus evil, with local 4 player co-op and online co-op and competitive game types. The game will also feature Howard Shore’s award winning score from the films. The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is scheduled for a release on January 13th, 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS.

The world premiere of our first trailer for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves!

This trailer will be shown during the 2008 Video Game Awards show, airing on December 14, 2009, at 9:00 PM on Spike. Don’t forget!

On top of that, Game Informer has revealed the cover for their January 2009 issue today, which features none other than – you guessed it – Uncharted 2. The January 2009 issue will hit subscribers and newsstands in mid-December and will give you the first in-depth look at what lies in store for Nathan Drake.

This new trailer has been making the rounds on the internet today, and if I didn’t know better, I would swear this came directly from Valve. Instead this comes from the team behind Black Mesa, a full-conversion mod using Half-Life 2’s Source engine to recreate the original Half-Life. Sure, Valve released their own Half-Life: Source long ago, but that wasn’t exactly the modern re-imagining that fans were hoping for (more of a cut/paste job). But that’s exactly what’s fueling the developers of this mod to give the first game a true update. From the looks of this trailer, I’d say they’re definitely on the right track.

Assuredly, one of the biggest complaints about Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was the lack of precipitation in the form of ice crystals, mainly of theintricately branched, hexagonal form. In a 30-second teaser trailer for the now-revealed Uncharted 2 (via GameTrailers), developer Naughty Dog has assuaged that concern by proving once and for all that Nathan Drake can exist in a frosty tundra. Don't believe us? See for yourself (video is embedded after the break). As hinted by the trailer, more information is expected during SpikeTV's Video Game Awards on December 14th.

Update: New information care of Game Informer, which has "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" as its cover story. The game will revolve around Marco Polo's voyages and includes new free climbing and -- gulp -- "stealth" gameplay.

It has been far too long since the last time we focused in on Prince of Persia gameplay and, thankfully, today Ubisoft released a new "Epic Gameplay Montage" trailer that's, well ... epic! Set to an epic musical track, you'll witness the Prince of Persia swing, leap and climb through danger and hopefully prove to you why he's the acrobatic Prince you should be plopping $59 on. Did we mention the music is epic? Because it is.

Many of the criticisms directed at Half-Life: Source were aimed specifically at its use of the Source engine found in Half-Life 2. Given that it used character models and textures from the original Half-Life, it’s fair to say that Valve could have done a better job. Thankfully, a group of sufficiently talented people agreed. The developers over at blackmesasource.com believe that Half-Life: Source was inadequate as the Source engine port of Half-Life and have decided to remake Half-Life using the version of the Source engine that powered The Orange Box. Not a bad idea at all. Whilst this may be old news to some, the new trailer is sure to generate more interest in this project.

According to the developers over at blackmesasource.com, “Black Mesa was founded to fully reconstruct the Half-Life universe utilizing Source to its fullest potential in terms of art detail, level sizes and code features.” Judging by the new trailer, it seems like they’re on target to do just that. Although much of the game has been built from scratch, they believe it stays faithful to the original Half-Life concept, with higher-resolution textures and more detailed world models. However, no remake would be complete without at least one new feature, which is why the team plan to introduce a co-op mode.

Much like all Source Engine mods (although calling this a Source Engine mod doesn’t really do it justice) Black Mesa requires a copy of any Source Engine game installed on Steam to play. So if you’re busy with that whole zombie apocalypse at the moment, then you’ll be good to go when Black Mesa is released for download at some point in 2009.

Considering how Naughty Dog has gone on the record to say that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was developed with a franchise in mind, this teaser trailer for Uncharted 2 shouldn't come as a huge surprise -- except for the chilly setting, of course.

Quite a change of scenery, huh? While not much about Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is revealed in the short trailer above, Game Informer has a few tidbits of info to supplement the announcement.

Excited? You should be. The full game debut will take place at the 2008 Spike TV Video Game Awards on December 14. Now go mark your calendar!
